Meet Policies
- Swimmers and divers are expected to attend all dual season meets unless the coach tells them that they are not in the line-up. This may be the case more for diving than swimming as only three divers compete in an age group and there are not as many exhibition events in diving.
- Swimmers and divers are expected to be on time for the meets and to check in with the coach or deck parent. Line-ups are posted on the wall and it is the responsibility of the swimmer or diver to check their events. The coaches or deck parents will provide assistance.
- If a swimmer or diver can not attend a meet the coach must be notified as soon as possible and before the Tuesday preceding the meet. Please check the schedule as soon as possible for any conflicts. Meet lineups are very labor intensive and changes add to the amount of work that is involved.
- There are several means of providing notification to the coaches about meet attendance. Swimmers and divers may sign the attendance book indicating meet attendance. You may also e-mail
This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
or the website hhaaswimming.org will allow you to e-mail the coaches. Also, a written note may be placed in the coach's folder in the pool office.
- If there is a last minute emergency or sickness, the appropriate coach must be contacted as soon as possible. The hotline and e-mail are appropriate means of communication in this event.
- Any swimmer or diver who does not participate in at least three meets per season will be ineligible to participate on the team the following year.
- Swimmers are to remain in the team areas during the meet and are not permitted to leave the deck area unless they have permission from the coach or deck parent. This also includes leaving before the conclusion of the meet.
- Parents are to remain in the spectator area during meets unless they are working as a parent volunteer for the meet. It is the parent's responsibilities to run the meets so all parents are expected to work meets at some point.
- The team's goal is to win the meet, so therefore the coaches will prepare the best possible line-up which are usually based on best times for the event. Sometimes coaches will use another swimmer based on the meet strategy. All swimmers will swim at least two events. Times are based on times swum at Hhaa meets this season.
- Swimmers and parents are expected to have a positive attitude and to conduct themselves with good sportsmanship. Above all else, have fun!
PreTeam
- PreTeam is considered HHAA's developmental team and these swimmers will receive more individualized coaching. All PreTeam swimmers will need to come to the Coaches assessment in September (after their first year on Preteam) before he/she is moved from the developmental team to the competiive swim team.
- Currently there are 2 Preteam swim meets scheduled during the season. PreTeam swimmers are eligible for Invitational Meets and are encouraged to attend the Invitational Meets scheduled after the first PeTeam meet occurs.
- PreTeam swimmers are not required to attend time trials but are recommended to do so.
Swimming and Diving Practice Policies
- Swimmers and divers should be on deck on time and prepared to swim. They must have caps, goggles, suits, and towels. Goggles should be in working order, please check them periodically and replace them if necessary. A water bottle is a good idea as sometimes the pool area is hot and practice may be challenging.
- Swimmers and divers must be escorted into the building by a parent and delivered into the presence of a coach for practice.
- Swimmers and divers must follow the rules of the coaches and adhere to the practice that is being given. There is to be no horseplay during practice both on the deck and in the pool.
- Swimmers must have courtesy in practice while circle swimming. If a swimmer who is faster is behind you, allow them to pass. Divers must wait their turn in an orderly manner.
- The coaches will assign the lane and practice time. Swimmers must adhere to their age group practice schedule unless the coaches have assigned a different practice. The coach, not the parent, initiates this.
- Parents must help supervise the locker room and instruct their children about being respectful of school property and other's belongings.
- Parents may not disturb coaches or swimmers during practice. This means that parents are not to be down on the deck during practice and are not to be calling out to or "coaching" their swimmers or divers from the balcony. If this occurs, the swimmer or diver will be removed from the water and sent up to the parent.
- Swimmers and divers are to remain in the pool area and in the locker room at the appropriate changing time. The swimmers and divers are only supervised when they are on the deck with a coach. If swimmers and divers are found in other areas of the school or misbehaving in the locker room during practice times without supervision, the family will be contacted and given a warning, if there is a second offense the athlete will be asked to leave the team without a refund of dues.
- If a swimmer or diver needs to leave practice early, a note must be sent in to the coach.
- Safety rules must be followed at all times in the pool, on the deck, and in the locker room at all times. Failure to follow the rules will result in a loss of privileges or may result in suspension from the team.
- Please remember, that we are a team and these rules and regulations are designed to protect the rights of others. Please help to ensure that your swimmer or diver respects the rules of the club and the rights of others by providing a good role model for them.
